2 My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. 2 And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world. 3 Now by this we know that we know Him, if we keep His commandments. 4 He who says, “I know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. 5 But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. 6 He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked. (I John 2:1-6)
Brothers and Sisters, if we ridicule a drunk or someone who is sinning in some other way, isn’t it better to lovingly show this person their sin and show love in Christ rather than let someone continue to walk in sin? If we are Christians, then we ought to walk as Christ walked. Not ridiculing, but sharing the Gospel. As it is written in Genesis:
26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness… 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. (Gen1:26-27)
If we are created in the image of God then it is a sin to ridicule that image. Even if that person bearing that image is sinning. I do not write these things to condemn, but to warn you so that you do not fall out of ignorance. On that great Day of the Lord we will all be called to account for our walk or lack of walk with Christ. For Jesus himself warned us there would be those who claimed to know Christ, but didn’t walk with Him as they thought:
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Be not a worker of iniquity, but seek first the Lord Jesus Christ and His Way. Put away all idle talk and take on the Gospel to win Brothers and Sisters rather than momentary fleshly amusement that leads to death!
