It’s always amazing to me the different ways God can speak to us through the Spirit. Yesterday I was out walking the dog. He’s a big black lab named Diesel. He’s older now so he moves a lot slower than he used to. And he likes to take time to sniff around. So as we paused along the way I happened to notice a number of seeds piled up on the sidewalk. They were in the corner of one of the squares the way they would be after a rain would carry them to an uneven lower corner.

Looking down at them He reminded me of the parable of the seeds. In this way I considered how a tree produces thousands upon thousands of seeds. And those seeds are carried away by wind or water generally. Some grow, but get cut down or uprooted. Many don’t grow at all. A seed may not germinate for lack of light, water or soil. So not many will grow into maturity.

Consider the Scripture:
³ Then He spoke many things to them in parables, saying: “Behold, a sower went out to sow. ⁴ And as he sowed, some seed fell by the wayside; and the birds came and devoured them. ⁵ Some fell on stony places, where they did not have much earth; and they immediately sprang up because they had no depth of earth. ⁶ But when the sun was up they were scorched, and because they had no root they withered away. ⁷ And some fell among thorns, and the thorns sprang up and choked them. ⁸ But others fell on good ground and yielded a crop: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. ⁹ He who has ears to hear, let him hear!” (Mat 13:3-9)

This shows our walk with Christ can at times be difficult. But where our faith can take a deep root we can produce fruits in His name. But again he said

¹³ “Enter by the narrow gate; for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads to destruction, and there are many who go in by it. ¹⁴ Because narrow is the gate and difficult is the way which leads to life, and there are few who find it. (Mat 7:13-14)

Furthermore:

And Jesus answered and spoke to them again by parables and said: ² “The kingdom of heaven is like a certain king who arranged a marriage for his son, ³ and sent out his servants to call those who were invited to the wedding; and they were not willing to come. ⁴ Again, he sent out other servants, saying, ‘Tell those who are invited, “See, I have prepared my dinner; my oxen and fatted cattle are killed, and all things are ready. Come to the wedding.” ’ ⁵ But they made light of it and went their ways, one to his own farm, another to his business. ⁶ And the rest seized his servants, treated them spitefully, and killed them. ⁷ But when the king heard about it, he was furious. And he sent out his armies, destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city. ⁸ Then he said to his servants, ‘The wedding is ready, but those who were invited were not worthy. ⁹ Therefore go into the highways, and as many as you find, invite to the wedding.’ ¹⁰ So those servants went out into the highways and gathered together all whom they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests.

¹¹ “But when the king came in to see the guests, he saw a man there who did not have on a wedding garment. ¹² So he said to him, ‘Friend, how did you come in here without a wedding garment?’ And he was speechless. ¹³ Then the king said to the servants, ‘Bind him hand and foot, take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

¹⁴ “For many are called, but few are chosen.”

Are you seeing this? We must remain focused upon Him, Jesus the Christ who died for our sins and declared “sin no more”. For He gave us a job to do in His name. To preach the Gospel and care for the poor and sick.
