Walking on the Water

22 Immediately Jesus made His disciples get into the boat and go before Him to the other side, while He sent the multitudes away. 23 And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there. 24 But the boat was now in the middle of the sea, tossed by the waves, for the wind was contrary.

25 Now in the fourth watch of the night Jesus went to them, walking on the sea. 26 And when the disciples saw Him walking on the sea, they were troubled, saying, “It is a ghost!” And they cried out for fear.

27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them, saying, “Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid.”

28 And Peter answered Him and said, “Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You on the water.”

29 So He said, “Come.” And when Peter had come down out of the boat, he walked on the water to go to Jesus. 30 But when he saw that the wind was boisterous, he was afraid; and beginning to sink he cried out, saying, “Lord, save me!”

31 And immediately Jesus stretched out His hand and caught him, and said to him, “O you of little faith, why did you doubt?” 32 And when they got into the boat, the wind ceased.

33 Then those who were in the boat came and worshiped Him, saying, “Truly You are the Son of God.” (Mat. 14:22-33)

Brothers and Sisters, our Lord is calling us out onto the water to walk with Him. Are you ready? Do you have the courage? There are days where I myself falter as Peter did. But it is He who reaches out to grab me and pull me back onto the water.

What do we have to fear? What is holding us back? When we gaze out on the water in the flesh we know that we would sink into the water. But in the Spirit the Lord will support us.

Do you know what is holding us back?

“O you of little faith, why did you doubt?”

Why do we doubt? Why do you doubt? If we believe what the Lord has told us we should not doubt. But we let ourselves get in the way. Many times Satan will whisper in our ear and challenge what we were told.

Now the serpent was more cunning than any beast of the field which the Lord God had made. And he said to the woman, “Has God indeed said, ‘You shall not eat of every tree of the garden’?”

And the woman said to the serpent, “We may eat the fruit of the trees of the garden; but of the fruit of the tree which is in the midst of the garden, God has said, ‘You shall not eat it, nor shall you touch it, lest you die.’”

Then the serpent said to the woman, “You will not surely die. For God knows that in the day you eat of it your eyes will be opened, and you will be like God, knowing good and evil.” (Gen. 3:1-5)

Satan is always challenging God’s truth. If we do not stand on our Rock, the Christ then how will we ever stay in our faith. We can sometimes waiver and I think that’s OK sometimes. But as we move forward we must learn to stand stronger and stronger. The Lord helps us do that. He gives us opportunities to grow. But we must continue to look to Him.

Be encouraged. He is there. He knows what you are struggling with. He will help us all overcome. I know. I am overcoming the same as you, working out my Salvation in fear and trembling. God Bless.

12 Therefore, my beloved, as you have always obeyed, not as in my presence only, but now much more in my absence, work out your own salvation with fear and trembling; 13 for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure. (Philippians. 2:12)
